Dr Christian Abrams

Hi, my name is Dr. Christian Abrams.  I've been in the health and wellness business since graduating Palmer chiropractic school in 2011.  I've treated thousands of patients over the years, and what I've learned from them as well as from issues with my own back, is that pain is not only not fun, it limits our ability to enjoy life with friends and family and limits our functional ability.  When we have pain, we don't move as well, we forego exercise, we don't sleep well, and we are irritable which affects our relationships.  At PowerUp Chiropractic, we have the knowledge, experience and equipment to get you feeling better and to ultimately recharge your health.

What We Specialize in Treating

Chiropractic Adjustment
Image

Spinal manipulations have been performed for thousands of years.  It became known as a chiropractic "adjustment" when chiropractic was officially founded in the late 1800's. Spinal misalignments affect the biomechanics of the spine, causing loss of range of motion, muscle imbalance, and ultimately, the beginning of degeneration disc and joint disease.  Chiropractors are professionally trained to find these misalignments and can correct them with safe and gentle thrusts with their hands known as adjustments.  In addition to the spine, joint misalignments can occur in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle and more, so be sure to mention if there concerns in these areas.

Spinal Decompression
Image

In between the spinal vertebrae are intervertebral discs, which act as a cushion between the vertebrae. Due to improper spinal alignment over time and gravity pressing down on us, abnormal weight distribution will be placed upon vertebrae and disc, which can lead to disc bulging and breakdown of the outer rings of the disc and subsequent disc herniation. This itself can be painful, but the bulge can also press on adjacent tissues including the spinal cord and nerves, causing pain, inflammation and swelling.  Spinal decompression is a gentle traction device that slowly pulls your spine apart, allowing for the disc to decompress and heal.  It can be used for neck or low back disc issues.  For the ultimate 1-2 punch, spinal decompression plus cold laser will be sure to remedy your disc issue.

Class IV
Laser

A class IV laser is the strongest of laser classifications, and should only be used by medical professionals.  Laser targets mitochondria, which is responsible for power production at the cellular level. By utilizing this light energy, cellular metabolism, DNA synthesis and signaling pathways for tissue repair are promoted.  In other words, laser will help injured areas heal much faster and without the negative side effects of anti-inflammatory medications.  It can be used for acute or chronic pain. Common conditions treated include arthritis, tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis/golfer's elbow, TMJ pain, and neck and back pain including disc issues.

Myofascial
Release

Massage therapy has been implemented for thousands of years. With the progression of understanding of human anatomy, more specific soft tissue techniques have been born. Myo-fascial means muscle and connective tissue. Fascia surrounds and supports every structure in the body, including muscles, bones, organs, nerves, joints, tendons, and ligaments. When muscle imbalance occurs in the body, a muscle or group of muscles can become chronically contracted and shortened, leading to chronic pain, loss of range of motion, and loss of strength. Myofascial release is a deep and slow manual therapy technique used to "release" these chronically contracted and shortened muscles.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

As discussed above, muscle imbalance can occur in the body and have negative consequence. Spinal joint misalignment also leads to muscle imbalance and subsequent pain and inflammation. Electrical muscle stimulation uses an electrical current via electrodes to overstimulate the dysfunctional muscles and ultimately lead to muscle relaxation.
